This is a portrait of Kayla with her hen, Ninja. Kayla keeps hens with her mother in Ennis, County Clare. She has lots of experience with the work involved in caring for these animals. The artist draws from her own experience growing up on a farm, as one of a large family. This painting is part of a series exploring the role of children in such a setting – their interests, their work and their responsibilities.
