Applications for 2023/24 have now closed

The Gallery has been working with Transition Year students for over 20 years. In the academic year 2023/24, we will run an exciting Transition Year Work Experience Programme. This is an opportunity to learn about working life in the arts and at the Gallery. There will be a total of three placements throughout the year, two of the placements are onsite and one is delivered completely online.  Students may only take part in one placement.

What will I do?

During the placements, you will learn about different aspects of working within the cultural sector. You will hear from industry professionals across a variety of subjects such as education, conservation, curation, cultural management, and art practice. Students will also have the opportunity to go behind the scenes and develop a range of creative skills.

Is this placement for me?

This placement is suitable for anyone who is interested in exploring a career working in the arts. We expect all students to be open to trying something new, engage with the programme, and to work as part of a team. The week involves experiential learning activities and is suitable for students with different learning styles.

This year's programme:

We will run three placements (one-week duration) across 2023/24:

•    Virtual Placement A: 27 November - 1 December 2023.

•    Onsite Placement B: 11 March - 15 March 2024.

•    Onsite Placement C: 15 April - 19 April 2024.
