Our podcast programme is specifically designed to support in-depth engagement with our exhibitions, while taking them far beyond the Gallery walls.

This podcast series is inspired by our summer exhibition New Perspectives. Acquisitions 2011-2020 which showcases a selection of new works acquired for the national collection over the past decade. An unprecedented number of works by contemporary artists have been acquired by the Gallery during this time, and this podcast series will explore three of these works of art in more depth. 

 

Episode 1: Director Lenny Abrahamson in conversation with artist Donald Teskey

In 2018, the Gallery commissioned Donald Teskey to paint Lenny Abrahamson's portrait for inclusion in the National Portrait Collection. In this episode, Donald and Lenny will share stories about their experience of the commission and how the portrait came to be.

Episode 2: Artist Diana Copperwhite in conversation with Donal Maguire

In 2019, the Gallery acquired Diana Copperwhite's painting Shapeshifter (2016). In this episode, Donal Maguire, Curator of the Gallery's ESB Centre for the Study of Irish Art, speaks to Copperwhite about this work, as well as her career and practice.

Episode 3: Artist Richard Gorman in conversation with Donal Maguire

In 2020, the Gallery acquired a woodblock print by Irish artist Richard Gorman, Big Red (2005). In this episode, Donal Maguire, Curator of the Gallery's ESB Centre for the Study of Irish Art, speaks to Gorman about this print, as well as his career and practice.
