Join Dr Sighle Bhreathnach-Lynch for a talk on Albert G. Power (1881-1945): Expressions of Nationhood in Bronze & Stone

At the time of his death in 1945, Albert Power was the leading nationalist sculptor in the Irish Free State, yet within a few decades he was almost forgotten. Drawing on her extensive research and seminal publication, Expressions of Nationhood in Bronze and Stone: Albert G. Power, RHA (2019), Dr Bhreathnach-Lynch will explore the work, impact and legacy of Albert Power, almost eighty years to the day after his death.

Dr Sighle Bhreathnach-Lynch is a writer and art historian, and is the former Curator of Irish Art at the National Gallery of Ireland. She has published and lectured on many aspects of Irish art, and is the author of, among others, 50 Works of Irish Art You Need to Know, published by Gill & Macmillan in 2015 and Expressions of Nationhood in Bronze and Stone: Albert G. Power, RHA, published by in 2019 by Irish Academic Press.

This talk is jointly presented by the Education Department and the Friends of the National Gallery of Ireland.
