Julia Galarowicz (aged 17)

Pencil on paper

Julia says: "As I have grown older, my admiration for the technical aspect of art has grown too. Seeing how reality can be mimicked with nothing more than a piece of paper and a pencil has always encouraged me to improve my own work. Art can be appreciated for many reasons: the feelings it evokes, the messages it tries to communicate, or simply the aesthetic value it offers.

There are no deep meanings or hidden metaphors embedded in my portrait. It is quite plain in that sense. The reason I created it was simply because I enjoy making pieces of art which I can be proud of. Looking at the global state we find ourselves in currently, it was helpful to have something to work on and to show that no matter how unfortunate the situation, art and creativity can still prevail."
