Nathan Lowry

Circle of Life, 2025

Acrylic on canvas | Unframed - diameter: 90 cm

‘This is a painting of my friends Aoife Magee and Simone Marzulli. I wanted to create a romantic painting based in contemporary Ireland. Aoife is a textile artist and her boyfriend Simone is a passionate skater in his free time. I wanted to incorporate their personal hobbies into this piece to accentuate their personalities. As Simone’s pastime is more physically demanding, I gave him a grounded pose in contrast to Aoife’s more ethereal posture, which references her more creative skill in embroidery.’ - Nathan Lowry.

Nathan Lowry is an Irish figurative artist based in County Dublin, who takes an organic approach to his compositions. He focuses on figures in everyday life with a view to providing insights into intimacy. His work represents various aspects of life, including the LGBTQ+ community. He considers romantic art or scenes with subliminal references to affection as themes for exploration. ‘As a gay person’, he says ‘it is a personal goal to subvert negative associations with people of varying backgrounds based on societal prejudice’.
