A free screening of the Polish film, The Peasants, followed by a Q & A

The Peasants (2023) is a hand-painted animated film based on Władysław Reymont’s Nobel Prize-winning novel from 1904 about a young woman who is determined to forge her own path within the confines of a late 19th century Polish village.

The film is composed of over 40,000 oil paintings created by approximately 100 painters working in art studios in four different countries. The film has been seen by over 2 million viewers and in 2023 became one of the greatest successes of Polish cinema.

The screening will be followed by a Q & A with Piotr Dominiak, Head of Painting Animation and Production Designer on the film, and Fiona Clarke, Festival Director & CEO of Cork International Film Festival.

Piotr Dominiak is a visual artist specialising in landscape painting as well as an animator, set designer, graphic artist, interior decorator, and animation director.  His work on production design has been awarded an Eagle by the Polish Film Academy. Piotr began his work in film painting backdrops for the Oscar-winning Peter and the Wolf. Since 2010, he has been involved in painting animation, also working as one of the key creators of Loving Vincent, a global success which has won numerous awards, and received nominations for an Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA.
