‘This work is from Tóch | Dig; a phased, collaborative and community engaged project with Sheena Malone and Pamela de Brí. It explores communities of place and interest connected to bogs in Kildare, and the effects of climate change on communities past, present and future. It was made while collecting oral testimony of past connections to bogs and features residents of the Coill Dubh village. The project is funded by Creative Ireland and Kildare County Council through the Creative Communities initiative.’ - Shane Hynan.
Shane Hynan holds an MFA in Photography from Ulster University (2019). His practice centres on photography with experimental elements in sound, video, collage, and sculpture. The metaphorical exploration of place, land and architecture is a significant subtext throughout his work, and draws upon conceptual, performative and subjective documentary approaches. Hynan has exhibited extensively in Ireland and abroad. His Beneath|Beofhód project, which he began in 2018, explores the culture and landscape of the midlands bogs and the transitions in perception, use and value of peatlands. The full body of work will premiere in Photo Museum Ireland in May 2026.
