'Paul Simon' (1972) Cover Version, 2025

Acrylic on panel | Unframed: 30 x 30 x 4cm

‘This painting is part of an ongoing series based upon the artwork of LPs, which fuses elements of autobiography, self-image, art history and pop culture into new ‘cover versions’. This one is of my friend Tony, who, when we were teenagers “down in the schoolyard” at the end of Britpop, used to wear a similar parka jacket. A very talented singer and musician himself, he was a big fan of Paul Simon back then too, and I have always seen an affinity between them. Like the album that inspired it – Simon’s first post-Garfunkel – it is a record of growing up, growing older and growing apart.’ - Kevin O'Farrell.

Kevin O’Farrell is an artist and poet from Dublin. As well as painting, he makes sculptures, carving stone by hand. He is a member of BKB Visual Arts Studios in Glasnevin. His poems have been published widely in Irish, British and American journals.
