In June 2017, photographer Conor O’Leary was invited to document the first ten days following the reopening of the Gallery's historic wings. O’Leary, whose portfolio includes work for organisations such as the New York Times, Fader & Penguin Random House, along with numerous self-directed arts projects, was in residence in the Gallery from 14 to 23 June 2017.

Working with the Gallery's Head of Education, Sinéad Rice, and supported by Gallery archivist, Leah Benson, Conor documented this significant and exciting time in the Gallery’s history. From when the doors first opened, to visitors both new and returning exploring the new spaces. He captured the staff behind the scenes, as well as the beautifully restored, conserved and refurbished historic rooms and newly hung collection.

This project aimed to capture both the building itself and public engagement with the institution. Through image, text, and audio, Conor recorded the impressions, responses and stories of those he met during this ten-dayresidency.

The project was curated on the Gallery's social media platforms using #1423.
