Centre for the Study of Irish Art

The Centre for the Study of Irish Art which houses the Gallery's Irish art library and archives is one of the most important and valuable research collections of its kind. The collection reflects the Gallery’s role in preserving Ireland's visual cultural heritage and continually acquires new material associated with the practice and lives of artists and those associated with the visual arts in Ireland.

Comprising a variety of primary and secondary material relating to individual artists, artist collectives and arts organisations, the collection records the development of Irish art and its history. This includes renowned artists such as Roderic O’Conor, Mary Swanzy, William Orpen, Walter Osborne and Sarah Purser, alongside the many art organisations, galleries, historians and critics associated with the production, exhibition and interpretation of art in Ireland.

The Centre for Study of Irish Art promotes and celebrates Ireland’s visual cultural heritage with an active engagement and exhibition programme.
