CPD Session: My Historical Backpack

Delivered by Izabela A. Dahl of Södertörn University and Jimmy Engren of Örebro University, both in Sweden, and facilitated in partnership with Maynooth University, this professional development session explores how creative, object-based and participatory approaches to history and heritage can foster more inclusive conversations around identity, migration and belonging. Drawing on contemporary research in history education and public engagement, the session invites educators and cultural practitioners to consider how personal narratives and lived experience can deepen understanding, empathy and civic participation within learning spaces. These continued professional development sessions will be tailored for delivery for two cohorts; the Education Team, and a pilot group of professionals working in post-primary education including teachers from a variety of disciplines, senior leadership from the National Council of Curriculum and Assessment, and course directors from leading Higher Education Providers in Teacher Training and Education.
