During difficult times,
curators, administrators and programmers involved in cultural sites,
such as museums, galleries, arts and heritage organisations, have
fewer supports and resources, yet still need to develop new ideas
and to press for innovation.
The National Gallery
is holding a symposium on Thursday 5 November designed to help people
to devise strategies that will enable them to think more creatively
about what they do, where to source funds, how to attract visitors
and to serve people well.
The distinguished panel
of speakers include Anna Cutler, Tate Modern; Steven Hadley, Audiences
Northern Ireland; Lia Ghilardi, Noema Research & Planning; Damian
O'Brien, Failte Ireland, Dr. Ross Parry, University of Leicester;
Stuart McLoughlin, Business to Arts, including six case histories
from a variety of venues in Ireland. The conference will be chaired
by Myles Dungan, Una Carmody, and Doireann Ní Bhriain.
The day concludes with
tours of the exhibition Edvard Munch: Prints; Centre for the Study
of Irish Art/Yeats Archive, or Print Room; and a reception followed
by a special talk:'The Story of The Ros Tapestry', by Countess Ann
Griffin Bernstorff, and Alexis Griffin Bernstorff, in association
with The Crafts Council of Ireland.
The symposium is organised
by the National Gallery of Ireland Education Department, supported
by Failte Ireland, under the auspices of the ICOM International
Committee for Education and Cultural Action.
