Sat 28 June, 2pm–5.30pm

All welcome and admission is free

Join us on Saturday 28 June for a summer afternoon party for all the family to celebrate the National Gallery’s 150th Anniversary in 2014. Programme starts at 2pm with art workshops; competitions; paintings coming to life; and family tours, and ends with lots of cake! All events are free and there is a 10% discount on all purchases in the Gallery Shop.

From 2pm
'Put yourself in the Picture’: Come and have your picture taken in a life-size replica of one of our master paintings from the National Gallery’s collection.

From 2pm
Paintings come to Life!: Look out for characters from some of our favourite paintings. Pick up a worksheet, and see if you can spot: Doňa Antonia Zarate; the Earl of Bellamont; the white Nun; Metsu’s ladies; Julie Bonaparte or Lady Caroline Crichton.

2pm
Film Screening: ‘Vermeer, the Art of Painting’ in the Lecture Theatre.

2 - 3pm
Family Workshop - ‘Happy Birthday National Gallery!’: Elaine Leader will give a workshop in the Millennium Wing Studio, Level 1. There will be large sheets of paper on the floor for children to draw on.

2 - 4pm
Drawing Workshop: Alan Daly will give a drawing demonstration in the Orientation Court, and one lucky visitor to the Gallery can have their portrait drawn.

2 - 4.30pm
Family Tours of the Collection: Tours take place every half-hour until 4.30pm inclusive.

From 3pm
'Military Manoeuvres’!: Richard Thomas Moynan’s affectionate portrait of children in Victorian Ireland will be brought to life by a group of young actors. Follow them through the galleries then have your picture taken with the characters in the café.
