The Future of the National Gallery

The Master Development Project of the National Gallery is currently underway, and has entered Phase Two.

The Milltown and Dargan wings of the Gallery are currently closed in order to upgrade the building to modern environmental standards.

These changes will greatly improve the Gallery’s ability to protect, preserve and display the collection. The first phase of the building works – the replacement of the roof of the Dargan Wing – is now complete. The next phase includes a newly designed Merrion Square entrance, improvements to visitor orientation, and extensive upgrading to facilities and services in both wings. The current project will continue until 2016.The short video above outlines some of these improvements. The presentation takes a virtual tour around the renovated galleries. It concludes with a visualisation of the final phase of our redevelopment, currently in planning.

Thank you for your understanding and patience while we undertake these essential works.
