Join artist Geraldine O’Neill ARHA for an in-depth, weekend painting course, inspired by Lavinia Fontana.

Foregrounding painting from life, with particular focus on render and precision, this course will take a detailed approach to the process of creating a portrait. Face, figure, clothing and jewellery will be considered as Fontana’s process is unpacked for contemporary practice. The course aims to provide a deeper understanding of the painting process and the techniques that made Fontana a true trailblazer. The course is suitable for participants of all skill levels and all materials are provided.

Format

  • This two day course will be an in-depth, hands-on look at the process of creating a portrait.
  • Through artist demonstrations in the studio and contextual visits to the exhibition, the course aims to provide a deeper understanding of the painting process and how creative ideas can develop.
  • The course is suitable for artists of all skill levels and all materials will be provided.
  • The course will run from 11am to 5pm on both days.
