Programmes for Young People (16-25)

Our programme for young people seeks to provide opportunities for 16-25 year olds to independently connect with, engage with, and respond to the Gallery and its collection. This programme considers what is of interest to young people and offers activities which the audience have identified as being of real importance to them and their peers. We aim to make real connections between historical artworks and traditional methods of making art with new media and contemporary issues through a range of activities and events, all shaped in dialogue with young people. One of our priorities for 2018/19 is to expand this programme and we are currently working with the National Youth Council of Ireland, along with an ever-growing group of young people, to inform and improve future programming and support independent engagement with art.

How we do it

We are currently developing exciting new opportunities for young people to get involved with the Gallery. To be kept up to date, please sign up to our email newsletter.

Nolde: React & Respond
As an artist known in equal measure for his exceptional work and controversial life, Emil Nolde can be challenging. React and Respond is an in-depth series of activities running for the duration of the exhibition Emil Nolde: Colour is Life. Designed to support young people engaging with the more thought-provoking themes in the exhibition, we also hope that the activities will embolden them to ‘react and respond’.

Youth worker and activist Amel Yacef will facilitate sessions exploring issues provoked by the exhibition including home, colonialism, censorship and freedom of speech, and consider how they matter to young people in Ireland today. These in-depth discussions will culminate in an ‘unconference’, curated by young people, for young people. This event will take place on Saturday, 30 June from 10.30am to 4pm. Full details, including booking information will be released soon. To register your interest contact Catherine O’Donnell [email protected] \ 01 6633579
