The White Cube – Modern Art and the Museum.
Lecture by Dr Roisin Kennedy, Art Historian, Writer.
Tracing the development of the modern art museum from the 19th century Musée du Luxembourg in Paris to MoMa in New York, this lecture considers how the idea of the neutral white space for exhibiting developed - which was challenged by artists such as Duchamp, the Surrealists, Warhol and Klein. It introduces the idea of the post-modern museum, a place that encourages a different kind of response from artist and viewer.
Lecture in No.5 South Leinster Street followed by a wine reception.
