National Gallery of Ireland to close to public on Thursday, June 5th due to planned strike action by Attendant staff.
SIPTU, on behalf of its members who are Attendant staff in the National Gallery of Ireland (NGI), have given notice of a one-day strike on Thursday, June 5th, 2014. This is against a background where NGI management has implemented a Labour Court recommendation which followed protracted discussions since October 2012 in relation to the rationalisation of local arrangements outside the sectoral norm. This involved the abolition of certain leave arrangements and premium payments which the Labour Court found to be no longer sustainable.
NGI management continues to be available for discussion with SIPTU in order to avert the strike.
Sean Rainbird, Director of the National Gallery of Ireland says: “The strike action planned for June 5th is regrettable and we apologise for any inconvenience this one-day closure may cause our visitors.”
