Ways of Thinking: Approaching Modern Art Special Lecture Series
A new series of lectures focus on the defining moments in the development of modern art and consider how artists reacted to the massive technological and social transformations of the 20th century.
Old Themes, New Attitudes. Tuesday 22 October 2013 at 6.30pm. Lecture by Dr Roisin Kennedy, Art Historian, Writer.
This lecture offers ways into approaching art forms such as abstract and conceptual art. Beginning with the emergence of avant garde art in mid-19th century France, the talk analyses ways in which traditional Western themes were challenged with references to the works of Cézanne, Picasso, Matisse, Duchamp and De Kooning.
