The National Gallery of Ireland has acquired portraits of Olwen Fouéré, Bob Geldof and Brian O’Driscoll, by Kevin Abosch for the National Portrait Collection.

In response to the outcome today, the National Gallery of Ireland says it is disappointed that there has been no clarity to any of the involved parties, but it accepts due process of the law.

In 2014, the National Gallery of Ireland will celebrate its 150th anniversary with an expanded programme of special displays and ancillary events which will document the Gallery’s history from 1864 to the present day.

An exhibition dedicated to the world of ballet, theatre and opera spanning the period 1880s to the 1940s will open on Saturday 10 August. It features images, in different media, of performers in costume, by Edgar Degas, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, as well as portraits of well-known Irish actors and singers, by Seán Keating, William Orpen and Muriel Brandt. All the works in the show are drawn from the Gallery’s collection
