Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting: Inspiration and Rivalry

The National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin is organising a landmark exhibition, Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting: Inspiration and Rivalry, in collaboration with the Musée du Louvre, Paris, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington. The exhibition will explore the fascinating network of relationships between Johannes Vermeer and Dutch genre painters of the period 1650–1675.

Frederic William Burton

This exhibition presents an opportunity to look afresh at the work of Frederic William Burton (1816-1900). The exhibition will explore all aspects of his career as an artist, including his early portrait miniatures and subjects inspired by the West of Ireland. It will also look at his period in Germany, and his tenure as director of the National Gallery, London.
