The Business of Being Turner.
1st – 31st January 2003
Turner was not only a great artist; he was also an astute businessman who constantly sought ways of maximizing his earnings as well as honing his skills and pushing the boundaries of watercolour painting. The annual exhibition of Turner watercolours which runs for the month of January in the National Gallery of Ireland includes the Henry Vaughan Bequest of watercolours and drawings. For this exhibition there was a new dimension to the master's work which focused on Turner’s early topographical drawings taken from his book of studies Liber Studiorum (1807) showing how he planned his work and outlines his visual manifesto for landscape art.
