London: Chatto and Windus, Piccadilly, 1883
Cork-born Maginn was a writer and poet who was part of the large group of literary and artistic Corkmen based in London in the early 1800s. In 1829 Maginn joined the new journal Fraser’s Magazine for Town and Country where he was in charge of content, as well as working as a contributing writer. The most popular feature of this satirical journal was the Gallery of Illustrious Literary Characters which featured caricatures by Daniel Maclise, under the pseudonym Alfred Croquis, and commentary by Maginn.
