Booking a Tour

Primary School Visit to the National Gallery

All school tours, workshops or self-guided visits to the Gallery must be booked in advance with the Tours Booking Coordinator.

How to book a tour

In advance of submitting the online booking form, please ensure that you have contacted the Tour Bookings Office by phone or email to check the availability of your preferred tour date and time.

Request a tour online  | Tel: +353 1 663 3510 | Email: tours@ngi.ie | Fax: +353 1 661 0099

Due to the popularity of our schools programmes, and to avoid overcrowding in the Gallery, we advise booking 3 weeks in advance.
We cannot confirm a tour until the booking form is received.
Tá turais le fáil i nGaeilge, ach ní mór duit réamhfhógra maith a thabhairt dúinn, le do thoil.

How much does it cost?

School tours are free of charge for Primary and Secondary schools in ROI and NI, however, a fee of €50 will be charged if notice of cancellation is not given 24hrs in advance.

How many students per tour?

Large classes will be divided into tour groups of a maximum of 15 students. There must be sufficient teacher/adult support to supervise each group. Teachers are responsible for their pupils and must remain with them at all times.
Teachers will receive a copy of the Gallery’s Code of Conduct for Schools in advance of the visit along with confirmation of the booking. Please discuss the guidelines with the students to ensure compliance and a positive and enjoyable experience.

How long does it take?

Guided tours last 40 minutes – allow an hour in total for your visit.

Students with special needs

Tours and workshops are adaptable for students with special needs. Please contact us to discuss your requirements in advance of booking.

Online Resources to prepare for the tour

Classroom resources for both Primary and Secondary schools are available to assist teachers preparing for a visit.

How does the Gallery Refurbishment Project affect guided tours?

Please be aware that many artworks will not be on show during the Gallery’s refurbishment programme. Guided tour group numbers may also be reduced to 15 or less in certain cases, determined by environmental conditions in the gallery.
